Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra at their JCRT Plaid Listening Party Pop Up, 350 Bowery St.

Fashion has its fair share of fair-weather friends and foul mannered fiends. Yet, the attitude and animosity that fuels my decisive exit from the industry is strangely absent from the mien of Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra. From initial encounter, good naturedness and rested acceptance command respect and leave me pining after their strategy for balancing industry survival and success. As the pair embarks on a new adventure, I'm excited to see what's next. The way forward is paired with a look back at musical inspiration. This week and next, JCRT tartan and tunes are packaged in a pristine popup on Bowery. Keep reading for a look inside...

Hand drawn, then printed "History of Plaid"

Generation X-ers and Millennials are well acquainted with the "mixtape" phenomenon of the pre-idevice era. Hours of waiting for the right song and call-in requests to local radio stations manifest in musical masterpieces for walkmans worldwide. This week, Robert and Jeffrey unveil #plaidmixtape -- a collection of 12 plaids, each paired with an album that serve as inspiration through the years. The first 6 styles are on display and available for purchase at the pair's popup on 350 Bowery until September 30th. The next 6 plaids will be unveiled next week. Stop by to see what's new at JCRT and to sample the song + style pairings.

Minimalist chic pop up space

"We are launching this new way of operation with an expression of all the music that inspired us to become designers-that defined our teenage selves and continue to influence us as adults. This become "The Plaid Mixtape"- and ode to all of the mixtape we lovingly recorded in our bedrooms for our friends."

The first 6 styles are for sale at the pop up. Next week, the next 6 will be released

"Each of the twelve plaids is an expression of the album covers as well as the music inside, carefully laid out through color and line, through weight of stroke and hue of color-printed out and hand-cut in less than one month using our new facilities."
